When it turned out, that there will be 2 concerts in Heidelberg,
I decided to stay overnight in Heidelberg . Ineke & Ruud would stay in the same hotel close to the Kornmarkt.
I arrived Friday afternoon and shortly after I unpacked my luggage, Ineke & Ruud arrived at the hotel, too. We arranged to look around the Kornmarkt, where the sound check was going on. What surprise to see that Carla was there this time. She was not at the dress rehearsal, the day before . When we went back to the market sqare, we met Uschi and Helma at a small restaurant and had dinneron the square. How lucky we were that it stayed dry and warm!
Then it was time to leave for the concert. We had good seats close to the middle in row 4 and 6, it couldn't be better. We all agreed that it was especially nice that the Kornmarkt is only a small square, it promised to be more intimate than in the huge anonymous arenas. Before the concert we were offered champaigne. The concert started with the entry ( 76 trombones).
It was a nice atmosphere and when the night came down, the sculpture in the middle of the place as well as the castle up on the mountain and the close by church were illuminated by numberous spot lights. I pass on to repeat here the program, as I dedicated a separate page. Just a few words about the "2 little Italians": after Mirusia performed the Heidelberg song, she was asked by André to present the person, with whom she fall in love in Heidelberg ( the song " I lost my heart in Heidelberg" is about a great love) and she answers : not only one but 2 persons! And then she starts to sing "Two little Italians) , during the song Franco and Vincenzo pretend to be fallen in love with Mirusia, pitching kisses to her and pretend to be jaleous on eachother. At the last note they almost fight. It is all quite funny and the audience was very amused. But I don't want to betray too much.
All soloists - Carla, Mirusia, the comedian harmonists not to forget André and the JSO were great - but all fans I talked to, agreed, that the 2nd concert on Saturday was still better.
Saturday morning Ineke, Ruud, Helma, Uschi and I did a little tour and went up to the castle, visited the pharmacy museum and the "biggest" barrel of the world and enjoyed the fantastic view over the whole city and river Neckar. We even discoverd the Kornmarkt with the stage. While we were walking around, we met some members of the orchestra, and Ineke asked to take a picture with her. Of cause the nice guys agreed.
After the concert we finished the evening with a glass of wine - we were a nice group - Iris & Albert, Helma & Uschi, Ineke & Ruud, a little later Elke & Nino passed by for a little chat.
Unfortunately the evening was much colder then Friday, so we could not stay too long. Nevertheless we enjoyed every minute.
